One of the elements in landscape photography i give the greatest amount of time to is the searching for my composition, Making the point of interest suit both the rest of the picture and the 5x4 ratio. Foreground is the most important element to me in a vista and the relationship on how much it dominates the picture. Lighting is obviously also very important and making the subject matter suit the conditions of the day wether direct, reflective or in shadow will determine what i think will work and what i look for.
I was once under the impression that Landscape photographers only worked at Dawn and Dusk but luckily to have found that not to be true. It is all in the looking and giving your self enough time to explore all the opportunities and knowing what will work at that particular location on that Day will all help towards a successful trip
I do not always have the opportunity to revolve my picture taking around the Weather forecast sadly. Weekends and planned trips being the usual and bright days can not be guaranteed so i do enjoy a challenge and poor lighting with overcast conditions i feel it tests my abilities to make the subject matter really work. I hope you enjoy the Galleries and this small insight into what i feel is important.
